The topic is: If you could ask for one thing this year from the gaming industry as a whole, what would it be and why?
If I could ask for one thing, it would be cross platform gaming.
Now, I know that the Xbox 360 and the PC can already play with each other in some games, but I’m talking about the PS3, the Wii, the Xbox 360 and the PC all being able to play together.
I have friends who prefer to play on PS3s, Wiis or PCs. I don’t mind that they play on a different console, but I hate the fact I can’t play with them on something like Call of Duty:World at War or Saints Row 2.
I’d also be able to laugh at them when I beat them
Also, think how much quicker it would be to find a game, on the multi platform games of course, because lets face it, the PS3 and the Wii aren’t getting Halo anytime soon. And the same that the Xbox and PS3 won’t be getting Mario any time soon.
The only bad thing is, the Wii doesn’t really use online for most of it’s games, and they don’t have headsets, which could make some tactical games, where you need to communicate pretty hard.
The last thing is, Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo, would probably never agree to this. I can still dream though.

The Wii now has Wiispeak, which allows you to talk with others.
I do like your idea of cross-platfom. ^_^

That would be amazing, definitely! I was just talking with someone the other day that has a PS3 and no other console. He was on his way to trade it in for a 360 so he can play online with his friends. How awesome would it be for that to not be a worry? I know there are hurdles when it comes to cross platform gaming but maybe they can be conquered in the future. Who knows?

Back in the 90s there was the dream of having the one set-top box that does everything – video, TV, games, etc. Back then it seemed pretty farfetched but today we’re getting closer to it. Look at the 360 and how we can watch DVDs, get Netflix video on demand, and play games.
Now if we could just get access to one set-top box with different channels for PlayStation exclusives, X-Box exclusives, and Wii exclusives we’d be almost there. I look for something like this to happen in the next ten years or so. We’ll be buying those options much like we buy the showtime, cinemax, or HBO packages today.

This is a good wish.
I’ve often thought that it would be handy if people all playing the same, multi-platform game could play together on the same games. Take Call of Duty 4 for instance. If I could play together with PS3 and PC players of that game, it would be sweet.
You’re right, though. There’s far too much of an ego maniacal mindset to the big companies; they each want to be the best, and coming together is a step away from that. Whether it hurts us gamers or not.

This is something I want every day. I have a 360, but I have a shitty comp, and my brother has a better computer. He could get Left 4 Dead on his PC, but mine couldn’t run it. On the other hand, we could get it for our respective systems and never play it together. It’s really too bad, because there are so many more people to play with and meet this way. Oh well.

I had a look on the Wii shop about Wii speak, and it seems like it’s just for use in the single channel you have to download. Though I don’t plan to buy the accessory, so I can’t be sure.

While reading your blog I thought I left my window open lol (’cause it’s snowing)
That is a big dream you have, and I think it’d be great to have multiplat games be able to connect to each other. Honestly though, I was upset when Sony lost all of its exclusives, especially FFXIII. I just held those franchises so dear to me with the PlayStation next to them. Now it’s just awkward and I haven’t got used to it yet.
